Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question about the walk? Tap any question below to expand the answer.
Do I need to join a community team or can I walk this alone?
You can participate on your own, with family, friends, or with a team.
How can I encourage others to join my team?
Start by spreading the word. Share information about the Tic Toc Walk and the event with friends, family, neighbours, coworkers, and classmates — you may be surprised by how many people are eager to support the cause.
Consider emailing your contacts and attaching the event flyer to make it easy for them to learn more. Once you've created your community team page, you can share the direct link and invite others to join your team. Encourage them to pass it along to their own networks as well — momentum builds quickly when everyone helps spread the message.
Will tax receipts be provided for pledged donations?
Official tax receipts will be issued for all pledges of $10 or more.
How should I handle cash donations?
Cash donations may be collected and deposited into your bank account, after which you can forward a cheque or money order to Tourette Ottawa Connection, 2 Shamrock Place, Ottawa, ON K2R 1A9.
For security reasons, please do not send cash through the mail.
What should I do if someone donates something other than money?
Donations of goods or services (rather than money) are considered in-kind contributions. The donor may choose one of the following options:
- The individual, business, or organization must provide Tourette Ottawa Connection with an invoice or other documentation confirming the item(s)' fair market value. A tax receipt will then be issued for that amount; or
- The donor may receive recognition for their contribution (for example, on signage or the team page).
Please note that donors must select one option only — either a tax receipt or recognition, not both.
Why is a waiver required?
A signed waiver is required to help protect you, Tourette Ottawa Connection, and all others associated with the event from liability in the highly unlikely event of an injury.
Completion of the waiver is mandatory for every participant in the Tic Toc Walk.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Given the nature of the event, you may feel that less-than-ideal weather is all the more reason to persevere. The event will proceed rain or shine; however, it will be cancelled or postponed if conditions become unsafe, such as during a lightning storm.
